Marcus McKinley was born in Auburn, New York to parents Anthony and Precious McKinley. The family relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1971. There Marcus began honing his skills and coming into his own as an artist. Marcus graduated from Oregon State University with dual degrees in Fine Arts and Sociology. While attending Oregon State Marcus McKinley began exhibiting his paintings at the Memorial Union Art Museum on the Oregon State campus. A career path, has led Marcus McKinley to teaching high school art classes, counseling at-risk youth of Portland, Oregon and serving the youth of Atlanta as a Fulton County Juvenile Court probation officer for the past twenty years. Exhibitions of his paintings have included exhibits in Canada, Portland, OR, Atlanta, GA, Cherry Lion Gallery, Abernathy Arts Center, and the High Museum of Art, Woodruff Arts Center. Marcus McKinley is the recipient of the NAACP National Artist Award.
